10 sessions in, here’s how it’s going

I jest of course. We’re having a ball with the campaign. It’s great when players and GM are getting equal amounts of joy from a game, and that’s very much where we are right now. Although I’ve read a lot more Symbaroum material than the players, I still feel a sense of exploration of the game, both in terms of system and setting.
The players have now earned sufficient experience to start looking at how they want to develop their characters, and we’re beginning to have conversations about the contents of the Advanced Player’s Guide (APG). My view is that we will need to take everything from this book on a case by case basis, and understand the rationale for each talent, ability etc. Our Witch character is looking to learn a new mystic power, so I’m scouring the source material to find someone to teach her. There’s nothing in the rules that compels you to be taught a new power, but narratively it feels more satisfying, and allows me to introduce new PCs, and by extension new plots, to the game. All the characters have signed on with a local job agency, in order to pick up some coin for basic living costs. I like that this game keeps the players short of funds, and that living expenses are quite steep. It reminds me a little of Traveller in this regard.
One of the Changeling characters is providing me with opportunities to start dropping some deeper lore, which the player eats up with a spoon. I think this character’s story is going to get weird, and I’m very excited by that.
So, overall I’d say we have a hit on our hands, a new favourite game that’s going to give us many hours of fun. Next time I’ll be indulging in a tangential ramble, but still about gaming, mostly. Until then, game on!
I always like games that involve us , the players, responsible for our own income. It allows to wander into areas we would ordinarily miss and equally allows us to create our own carnage hahaha. It’s a great staple game and a welcome respite from the mundanes 😉

Anything that increases player agency gets a massive thumbs up from me.
